yellow cover to Paris, France, red New York transit, blue Cherbourg
transit and debit marking also tie stamps, 2c tiny sealed tear at top let,
3c natural s.e. at left, cover with small repair at top, otherwise Very
Fine, and extremely rare mixed-issue franking of the 2c F Grill and
National Bank Notes overpaying the 10c rate, with 2001 P.F. certificate (Image) |

Orange, F. Grill (95, 99, 100). Used with 15c Black (77), each
tied by neat strike of "New York Paid Dec. 21" circular datestamp on large
cover from San Francisco to Paris, France, neat "San Francisco Cal.
Dec. 12" circular datestamp, stamps appear not to have been cancelled in
San Francisco, blue 1870 French transit circular datestamp, straightline
"Insufficiently Paid" crossed out in blue crayon, blue Consular seal
on back, missing additional stamp (probably low-value 1869 Pictorial), some
overall wear and few faults, still Fine and impressive franking, an
extremely rare usage of the high-value Grilled issues, illustrated and
discussed in an article in Chronicle (May 1985, pp. 117-118) (Image) |
