Small piece of paper with typed "'We' carried this flag from New York to
Paris, May 20-21, 1927" and signed by Lindbergh, accompanied by
envelope with manuscript "FLAG" and an 11 x 8 inch American
Flag, piece with few light folds, flag with small cigarette burn at
rightVERY FINE. AN OUTSTANDING ITEM CARRIED ABOARD CHARLES LINDBERGH'S HISTORIC AND RECORD-BREAKING FLIGHT OF THE SPIRIT OF ST. LOUIS FROM NEW YORK TO PARIS. The "We" in the note refers to himself and the Spirit of St. Louis. This also became the title for his book. From the Joseph T. Hartson collection of Air Mail covers. Mr. Hartson was a sales manager at Wright Aeronautics and a frequent correspondent of Charles Lindbergh's. The Siegel firm sold a cover and letter addressed to Hartson carried on the same historic flight in our Sale 837 (lot 365) for $110,000 hammer. (Image) |
