EXTREMELY FINE GEM. AN OUTSTANDING BLACK JACK RE-ISSUE IN THE FINEST ATTAINABLE CONDITION.

The 2c Black Jack Re-Issue is a difficult stamp to find in such perfectly-centered, original-gum condition. The example offered here has wide and balanced margins all around, and is in remarkably fresh condition. These two qualities are almost never found on the same stamp.

EXTREMELY FINE GEM. A SUPERB EXAMPLE OF THE 3-CENT 1861 RE-ISSUE -- ONE OF THE RAREST OF THE SET IN THIS CHOICE CONDITION.

The 3c 1861 Re-Issue, of which 465 were issued, has the distinction of being one of the three most difficult stamps in the set to obtain in this Extremely Fine Gem original-gum condition (the others are the 24c and 30c). It is rarely found well-centered, and those in Very Fine or Extremely Fine grade usually have either disturbed gum or no gum at all. In this stamp, we have the rare combination of choice centering and original gum, elevating it to one of the finest extant.

EXTREMELY FINE. A SPECTACULAR ORIGINAL-GUM 15-CENT 1866 RE-ISSUE WITH CENTERING RARELY ENCOUNTERED AMONG EXAMPLES OF THIS ISSUE.

Only 397 examples of the 15c 1866 Re-Issue were sold in 1875. Collectors have quickly learned to appreciate the rarity of 1861-66 Re-Issues in Extremely Fine original-gum condition -- recent realizations, such as $21,000 for the 24c in our Sale 826, reflect the value of superb copies. It is generally accepted that the 3c, 24c and 30c are the most difficult of the series to obtain in the highest grades, and we would place the 15c in that group. This stamp -- with its choice centering, original gum, intense shade and overall brilliance -- ranks among the finest examples extant.
