left stamp affixed at left edge on 138 x 75mm lined notebook-like gummed
paper, stamps with perfs trimmed at top, hinge reinforced, natural s.e. and
pinhole at right, stamps and paper with experimental horizontal slits,
appears Fine, this essay was one of the attempts by the post office to
prevent stamps being reused, with photocopy of 1877 Patent (obtained by
David G. Beaumont), Scott Retail for four single essays
