Extraordinarily well-centered, the richest color and most proof-like impression we have seen among examples of this shade, tied by bold "Due 3" straightline on shoe thread manufacturer's advertising cover to Scotland, matching "Andover Ms. Feb. 11, 1862" circular datestamp, red "Boston Br. Pkt. 19 Paid Feb. 11" circular datestamp, cover neatly repaired at top affecting only the datestamp, the 24c stamp is Extremely Fine and noteworthy for cancel as well as for condition, with 1999 P.F. certificate (Image) E. 1,500-2,000
2296 c image24c Steel Blue (70b). Rich color, centered to right, tied by bold "Marblehead Mass. May 6" circular datestamp on unusual 1862 cover to London, England, sides of cover decorated and sealed by selvage from a sheet of the Great Britain 1p Red, selvage "tied" at top by boldly struck "Boston Br. Pkt. 19 Paid May 6" exchange circular datestamp, "Paid" handstamp, stamp with tiny perf tear at top, otherwise Very Fine, a striking cover and an attractive use of the 24c Steel Blue (Image) E. 2,000-3,000
2297 c image24c Steel Blue (70b). Vertical pair, each with grid cancel on 1862 cover to London, England, bold "Marblehead Mass. May 20, 1862" double-circle datestamp, cover has been decorated and sealed by selvage from a sheet of Great Britain 1p Red, Boston and London transits tie, selvage additionally used on backflaps, horizontal file fold passes between stamps but does not crease or separate them, bottom stamp with small margin tear, Very Fine, extremely rare and unusual use of a Steel Blue pair (Image) E. 2,000-3,000
2298 c image24c Steel Blue (70b). Rich color, well-centered, used with two singles of 3c Rose (65) and 12c Black (69), cancelled by light strikes of cork cancels, "Harrisburgh Pa. Jan. 24" double-circle datestamp on 1862 cover to Stockholm, Sweden, neat red "Aachen Franco" handstamp ties three stamps, magenta ms. credit, New York and Hamburg transit backstamps, one 3c tiny crease at top, missing part of top flap

VERY FINE. A BEAUTIFUL AND RARE THREE-COLOR FRANKING TO SWEDEN WITH THE 24-CENT STEEL BLUE.

The franking pays the 42c rate to Sweden via Prussian Closed Mail.

Paid Jan. 11", Hong Kong and Manila backstamps, red crayon "30" credit, London transit and "1d" British colonial rate handstamp, neat "2" due marking ties one 24c stamp, light file fold barely affects 3c stamp
