2232 c image3c Pink (64). Rich color, pastel shade, tied by perfect strike of "Paid 3" in circle on small cover to Salem Mass., bold "Nantucket Mass. Paid Sep. 24" circular datestamp, pristine cover and overall Extremely Fine, with 1971 A.P.S. certificate (Image) 750.00

Bright and fresh color, strong bluish tint -- more "Pigeon Blood" than some of the certified Pigeon Blood Pinks we have seen -- almost perfectly centered, tied by bold strike of "Fryeburg Me. Nov. 12" circular datestamp on immaculate orange cover to Skowhegan Me., Extremely Fine Gem, a superb cover in every respect, signed Ashbrook, ex Rust and Hill (Image) 750.00

2235 c image3c Rose Pink (64b). Straight edge in at right, small perf tear at left, used with four 1c Blue, Ty. V (24) and 3c Dull Red (26), well-centered, tied by "San Francisco Cal. Oct. 15, 1861" double-circle datestamp on small white cover to Ovid N.Y.

FRESH AND EXTREMELY FINE. A BEAUTIFUL AND REMARKABLE COMBINATION OF THE 1857 AND 1861 ISSUE ON ONE COVER.

This cover is reported to be the earliest known use of the 3c 1861 from California, but we are unable to verify the claim. Ex Haas (Image)

Mazatlan Mex. Oct. 3" datestamp and "Wells, Fargo & Co. Mex. Coast Messr. Oct. 5" transit, fancy "Franco" wreath handstamp indicating prepayment in Mexico, Very Fine, an exceedingly scarce usage originating in Mexico and carried by Wells, Fargo & Co. to San Francisco where it entered the mails (Image) E. 750-1,000
