Used with 3c Dull Red (26), both stamps tied by bold strikes of red New York "Supplementary Mail" Type A handstamp, third strike at bottom of 1860 folded letter to Marseilles, France, red "New York Paid 3 Jul. 28" credit datestamp, carried aboard the Vanderbilt Line's Vanderbilt (American Packet), small boxed "PD", ultramarine Havre transit, transit and receiving backstamps, stamps centered to one side, slightly toned, horizontal file fold away from stamps, Very Fine, a colorful and extremely rare New York Supplementary Mail cover carried by the short-lived Vanderbilt Line, the premium for sending the cover via Supplementary Mail was paid in cash (Image) E. 2,000-3,000

Horizontal strip of seven, second and third stamps from left show double framelines, remarkably choice centering, used with two singles of 3c Dull Red (26) and tied by "Philadelphia Pa. Jul. 9" datestamps on buff 1860 cover to Paris, France, red "Philadelphia Pa. Paid Jul. 9 1860" exchange office datestamp also ties strip, transit and receiving backstamp, light vertical file fold barely affects strip (mostly between stamps), left stamp perfs slightly affected from placement at edge of cover, few minor flaws

VERY FINE. THIS IS ONE OF THE LARGEST MULTIPLES OF THE 1859 12-CENT PLATE 3 RECORDED ON COVER. A WONDERFULLY RARE COVER PAYING SIX-TIMES THE 15-CENT RATE TO FRANCE.
