Franco", small piece out of backflap from openingVERY FINE. EXTREMELY RARE USE OF THE 5-CENT BRICK RED ON A TRANSCONTINENTAL COVER TO EUROPE WITH THE "OVERLAND" STRAIGHTLINE. Very few covers exist with the "OVERLAND" route marking applied at San Francisco. Mohican at St. Paul de Loando, West Coast of Africa, with
original enclosure, interesting contents, missing top flap, Very Fine usage
to a remote destination, in this same year the Mohican captured the
slave ship Eire -- its captain, Nathaniel Gordon, was hanged in
1861, the first man condemned under an 1820 Federal law declaring
