EXTREMELY FINE. A MAJOR CALIFORNIA EXPRESS RARITY, OF WHICH FOUR OR FIVE EXAMPLES ARE BELIEVED TO EXIST.

Our records contain four examples of the Adams & Co. newspaper stamp: 1) black Sacramento double-circle cancel, crease, ex Ferrary, offered in lot 404, 2) black Sacramento double-circle cancel on piece with Adams & Co. corner card, ex Needham, 3) blue Adams & Co. Georgetown Nov. 3(?) oval, thinning and pinhole, ex Hunter, Worthington, Caspary, and 4), blue Adams & Co. Georgetown Jan. 14 oval, ex Mason and Ackerman, the stamp offered here. It is worth noting that the Middendorf and Golden collections did not have an example of this rarity.
