345 c image(STONINGTON CONN.) Forwarded by Hale & Co. Stonington Ct. Framed four-line handstamp -- an unusual and rare type -- lightly-inked but readable strike with ms. "6" rate on May 24, 1845 folded letter from Stonington to New Haven, file folds, Very Fine, only a few known (Image) E. 500-750
346 c imageHale & Co., (5c) Dark Blue (75L1). Remarkable deep shade and heavy impression, cut to shape, ms. "N" initial probably applied as a cancel, perfect pitch-black strike of "WARREN R.I." straightline in diminutive italic type on Sep. 18, 1844 folded letter from Warren to Providence, file folds clear of stamp, very faint and even overall toning

EXTREMELY FINE. ARGUABLY THE FINEST OF THE HANDFUL OF COVERS KNOWN WITH THE RARE HALE & COMPANY WARREN OFFICE STRAIGHTLINE.

Warren lies between Providence R.I. and New Bedford Mass., approximately ten miles southeast of Providence. The "N" initial is probably a cancellation applied by one of Hale's agents. (Image)

E. 1,500-2,000
347 image(WORCESTER MASS.) Hale & Co., (5c) Red on Bluish (75L2). Top sheet margin and large margins all around, vivid color, ms. "W" initial for Worcester, probably applied as a cancel, affixed over file fold on Nov. 16, 1844 folded to Boston, red "Hale & Co.'s Mail Worcester" red oval handstamp -- the stamp is unaffected by the fold and Worcester often applied its oval without any Collect box or rate marking -- these two circumstances are reasons for us to offer this as an off-cover stamp in Extremely Fine condition (Image) E. 200-300
