FRESH AND EXTREMELY FINE. THE FINEST OF FIVE RECORDED BLOCKS OF THE AMERICAN LETTER MAIL LARGE EAGLE ISSUE.

Unlike the Small Eagle stamp, there was not a large supply of unused Large Eagle stamps among the remainders in Lysander Spooner's estate. Our records contain a block of 12 (largest known multiple, realized $26,000 in the Golden sale), four blocks of 4 and a vertical strip of 4 (see lot 223). This corner-margin block in sound original-gum condition is the finest of the five blocks. (Image)
