on 1846 blue folded letter to James H. Wells at Hartford Conn., a prior
file fold thru stamp has been expertly pressed and the stamp -- previously
scuffed along the crease -- has been skillfully touched upEXTREMELY FINE APPEARANCE. ONLY 19 COVERS WITH THE BRATTLEBORO POSTMASTER'S PROVISIONAL ARE RECORDED. THIS TIED EXAMPLE COMES FROM THE WELLS CORRESPONDENCE AND IS ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL-APPEARING BRATTLEBORO COVERS KNOWN. This cover was discovered in 1936 along with two other folded letters to Wells in Hartford, each with the Brattleboro provisional (one double franking). The unpublished Brattleboro census by Philip T. Wall lists a total of 52 stamps, including 20 stamps on 19 covers. With 1985 P.F. certificate. (Image) |
