EXTREMELY FINE GEM. A MAGNIFICENT 12-CENT 1861 RE-ISSUE WITH THE FINEST ATTAINABLE CENTERING, IMPRESSION AND STATE OF FRESHNESS.

Seeking only the finest examples of 1861 Re-Issues, the collector who consigned this stamp (and others in the sale) succeeded in locating a perfectly-centered 12c with original gum. Although wide margins are the norm for the 12c Re-Issue, this stamp's centering and freshness are the critical elements that distinguish it from virtually all others.
