A FINE AND DESIRABLE FOUNDING FATHER'S FREE FRANK.

General John Sullivan, the recipient, led a raid on December 15, 1774, on Fort William and Mary to secure arms for the Revolutionary forces. He went on to hold important commands at the siege of Boston from 1775-76, and he headed the American forces that besieged Newport. Sullivan was also a member of the second Continental Congress.

Accompanied by two additional items: first is part of folded cover addressed in Franklin's hand to Miss Katy Ray at Westerly (R.I.) with red wax seal, second item is The Gentleman's Magazine for November 1755 containing an article by Franklin on U.S. population growth.
