Nov. 23" (1861) circular datestamp on buff cover to B. N. Clements, Chief Appointment Bureau, Richmond Va., very slight edge wear, Very Fine, extremely early use of Confederate General Issue from Bowling Green and one of the finest known -- Kentucky's pro-Confederates seceded on Nov. 18 and were admitted on Dec. 10, 1862, but politics followed the fortunes of each side's military campaign -- ex Birkinbine (Image) E. 750-1,000 1,150.00

Mar. 15" (1862) circular datestamp on cover with magnificent Synodical Female College blue cameo corner card with illustration of building, to Reynolds Ga., expertly cleaned to remove stains and toning, Extremely Fine appearance, the building on this corner card was used as an emergency hospital for Confederate soldiers from the battlefields of Jonesboro, Griffin and Atlanta (it burned in 1865) (Image) E. 1,000-1,500 2,200.00

468 c image5c Green, Stone 1 (1). Large to huge margins, bright color, used with U.S. 3c Dull Red (26), both tied by two strikes of "Augusta Ga. Jan. 6" (1862) double-circle datestamp on buff cover to Double Wells Ga., vertical fold at center, Extremely Fine, a remarkable combination, the 3c stamp was probably affixed to the envelope before the war and the 5c added by sender before mailing -- extremely rare with a 3c adhesive and with the Confederate stamp not covering the obsolete postage -- ex Emerson, Brooks and Knapp (Image) E. 1,000-1,500 4,250.00

Two large margins, just touching at right and bottom, used with 5c Blue, Stone 2 (4) on U.S. 3c Red Star Die entire to Tupelo Miss., stamps tied by unusual segmented cork grid, "Canton Miss. Jul. 17, 1862" circular datestamp, Very Fine, genuine Green and Blue combinations are extremely rare -- this is especially desirable with the fancy cancel and adversity use of an obsolete 3c U.S. entire (Image) E. 500-750 850.00
470 c image10c Dark Blue, Hoyer & Ludwig (2b). Cut close all around, tear at upper left, tied by ms. "X" over Camden S.C. "Paid" and "10" handstamps on envelope prepared as a provisional issue, red "Camden S.C. Dec. 30" (1861) double-circle datestamp, used to Manassas Junction Va., faint toning, Fine and rare, a very similar cover in the Kilbourne collection (Sale 815) was sold for $950 hammer, with 1986 P.F. certificate (Image) E. 500-750 400.00
471 c image10c Dark Blue, Hoyer & Ludwig (2b). Large to huge margins, beautiful proof-like impression, tied by red grid with matching "Sparta Ga. Feb. 8" (1862) circular datestamp on brown cover to Vice President Stephens in Richmond, backflap removed and docketed as usual, Extremely Fine (Image) E. 500-750 375.00
