EXTREMELY FINE EXAMPLE OF THE 90-CENT UNGRILLED NATIONAL BANK NOTE ISSUE. AN UNDER-APPRECIATED RARITY.

Perhaps because of the similarity between the three ungrilled 90c Carmine/Rose Carmine printings (Scott 155, 166 and 191), collectors tend to underestimate the rarity of the first ungrilled 1870 Issue, Scott 155. Unlike the 1873 and 1879 printings, no large multiples of this stamp have been available to feed the demand for singles. It is far rarer in original-gum centered condition than the two subsequent issues.
