999 c 2c Black (73). Tied by "Philada. Pa. Post Office Jun. -- 2nd '64" double-circle datestamp on cover with Great Central Fair illustrated battle scene in black with fallen soldier, addressed to "Chairman of Newspaper Committee, Great Central Fair", slight edge toning and toning on reverse, otherwise Very Fine $ 700
1000 c 2c Black Jack entire (U46). With Great Central Fair illustrated battlefield scene with fallen soldier in black, return address imprint at side, unsealed and addressed locally, stamp cancelled by "Philada. Pa. Post Office" May 1864 circular datestamp, Extremely Fine, this design is very rarely found on the Black Jack entire, ex Kantor and illustrated as Fig. 139 in their book $ 900
1001 c Soldier's Fair, Springfield Mass., 10c Lilac (WV14). Close margins as usual, affixed with traces of brown gum to cover with proper dark blue "Soldiers Fair, Springfield, Dec. 20, 1864" circular datestamp and unusual blue "Ship 10" hs, Extremely Fine, these covers were probably prepared in advance and sold to patrons, this unaddressed example may represent an unused entire, with 1996 P.F. certificate stating stamp and circular datestamp are genuine, but declining opinion as to the "Ship 10" hs $ 350

Two singles, just touching to ample margins, one with small crease ending in tear, tied by Memphis circular datestamp on all-over advertising cover for cotton factory to Lynchburg Va, reduced at T. with sealed tear and repaired corner nick, Fine, still attractive and very scarce $ 1,200
1009 ng Mobile Ala., 2c Black (58X1). Unused (no gum), ample to large margins, tiny sealed tear at B., Very Fine appearance, very scarce, with 1998 P.F. certificate $ 1,050

1012 c Petersburg Va., 5c Red (65X1). Just touching to large margins, tied by blue "Petersburg Va. 5 cts. Nov. 26" circular datestamp on blue folded letter to Summitt Va., Extremely Fine, with 1993 C.S.A. certificate $ 1,050

Apr. 17, 1861" circular datestamp on yellow cover to Charleston, April 17 is the first day of Virginia independent statehood, second a 3c Red Star Die entire cancelled by "Fredericksburg Va. Apr. 18" circular datestamp to Hampstead Va., third is a stampless cover with "Manning S.C. Apr. 30" circular datestamp to Charleston, 1861 docketing at L., latter two with back faults, Fine-Very Fine appearing $ 160
