Hammond (postmaster for the Army) and addressed to the postmaster at Vera Cruz, Mexico, datelined "Puebla Mexico Aug. 1, 1847", contents read in part "We are sending a small mail by a Mexican who has agree'd to deliver our letters at Vera Cruz at two dollars a letter...we expect Gen. Pierce tomorrow or the next day and after his arrival the armys move for Mexico", some insect nibblings, still Fine and significant Mexican War usage $ 525
