VERY FINE. A UNIQUE 1869 PICTORIAL FRANKING FOR THE 28-CENT BRITISH MAIL RATE TO SPAIN VIA FRANCE. ONE OF THE MOST DISTINCTIVE COVERS FROM THE FAMOUS GOMEZ CORRESPONDENCE.

Due to the -1/4 ounce (7.5 grams) weight increments for British-French mails, the rate to Spain for British mail via France increased to 28c for a letter weighing between -1/4 and -1/2 ounce. Only four 12c 1869 covers to Spain are recorded in the 1869 PRA census, and this is the only franking with pairs of the 12c and 2c among the four.
