2201 c image3c Ultramarine (114). Used with 1c Ultramarine, 10c Green, E. Grill (63, 89), 1c pair and strip of three, all tied or cancelled by small circle of V's fancy cancel, "Walla Walla W.Ty. Jun. 26" Washington Territory circular datestamp on registered buff cover to Palmyra N.Y., forwarded to New York City, 1870 docketing, stamps slightly wrinkled and a couple minor faults, cover a bit worn, still Fine, an extraordinary three-issue franking for the 3c rate plus 15c registry fee -- even more remarkable originating from Washington Territory -- truly an outstanding domestic usage (Image) $ 1,100

Horizontal pair with wide s.e. at right, used with 12c Black (69), cancelled by matching circle of wedges (12c lightly tied), "West Newbury Ms. Dec. 15" circular datestamp on immaculate registered cover to Ipswich Mass., 3c plus 15c registry fee -- oddly there is no registration number, but letter confirms money enclosure -- tiny edge tear at right, Extremely Fine, a very scarce combination and immensely attractive cover (Image) $ 1,200

Grill (95), trimmed along top margin, tied by faint red cancels and trace of Milwaukee Wis. circular datestamp on orange registered cover to New York City, reduced to half its original size, repaired at top, nonetheless an extraordinary franking for the double 3c rate and 15c registry fee, multiples of the 5c F.
