Boyce's City Express Post, New
York N.Y., 2c Black on Green Glazed (19L1). Two large margins, cut in
at top and right, just tied by pencil "X" on brown cover to post office
box, black "New-York 1 ct. Jan. 8" drop-letter rate datestamp, some
edgewear and nibbling at bottom leftFINE. THE BOYCE'S CITY EXPRESS
POST STAMP IS EXTREMELY RARE, WITH PERHAPS EIGHT TO TEN KNOWN ON COVERS AND
ANOTHER FOUR OR FIVE OFF COVER. Very little is known about Boyce's
City Express Post. Nothing in the city directories ties any particular
Boyce to the post, nor are there advertisements or source material to
identify the proprietor. Covers are dated in late 1852 and April 1855. The
stamp on this cover is illustrated in Pat Paragraphs (reprint, p.
367). (Image) |

Boyce's City Express Post, New
York N.Y., 2c Black on Green Glazed (19L1). Full to large margins, very
poor (late?) impression with only part of the design visible, uncancelled,
affixed to buff cover to Saxton's River Vt., the sender's "Paid All"
notation at bottom left is unusual and seems to support the stamp's use on
this cover, trace of New York datestamp at upper right, but no regular
postage, a Fine example of this rare stamp -- approximately 12-15 examples
are known -- the cover is offered on its own merits
