Circa 1848, 48 South Third Street address, printed circular with (2c) Black, Striding Messenger (15L5) and (1c) Black, "For the Post Office" (15L8) stamps affixed, second version with space for convenient box location, lightly folded, faint even toning, very scarce example of Blood's circular -- the essential exhibit piece -- ex Middendorf (Image) E. 1,000-1,500

VERY FINE APPEARANCE. ONLY FIVE INTACT PANES OF TWELVE OF THE BLOOD'S STRIDING MESSENGER STAMP ARE BELIEVED TO EXIST.

Of the five panes located among Sloane's records, one is split into two and rejoined, and another has one stamp removed from lower right. A thorough search of auction catalogues produced no other panes.
