Black on Rose, "S" (7LB2). Huge top margin, large at right,
uncancelled, faint (almost imperceptible) vertical creaseVERY FINE
APPEARANCE. THE "S" CARRIER STAMP IS EXTREMELY RARE, WITH ONLY FOUR OR FIVE
BELIEVED TO EXIST ON OR OFF COVER. Although the initialled carrier
stamps do not exactly agree with the carriers' names, except for "JJ", this
"S" stamp may have been designated for G. B. Schock. There are two reported
covers (June 6 and June 16, 1849) and possibly one or two other off-cover

"Philada. Pa. Jun. 16/5" integral-rate circular datestamp, ms. "1849" year
dateVERY FINE. ONE OF TWO EXAMPLES OF THE "S" CARRIER STAMP USED ON
COVER. AN IMPORTANT CARRIER RARITY. The initial "S" is believed to
designate carrier G. B. Schock. In addition to the two known covers, there
at least one (probably two or three) off-cover stamps. Ex Worthington
(cost code on back), Caspary and Middendorf.
