A 235 imageHonour's City Post, Charleston S.C., 2c Black on Bluish (4LB8). Position 1, three full margins, slightly in at left, tied by ms. cancel, used with 3c Brownish Carmine (11), clear to ample margins, ms. cross-hatch cancel, blue "Wilmington & Raleigh Railroad" route agent's circular datestamp with ms. FINE AND VERY RARE USE OF CARRIER STAMP ON MAIL GIVEN TO THE ROUTE AGENT OF THE WILMINGTON & RALEIGH RAILROAD.

According to Henry Abt's album write-up, Charles Remele (who once owned this cover) speculated that the Charleston carrier department somehow ensured that this letter would reach the southern terminus of the Wilmington & Raleigh Railroad at Wilmington, 150 miles from Charleston, perhaps via a coastal vessel.
