large black oval "Kidder's Brooklyn City Express Post, Feb. 2 Cts." (partly
readable strike) on small cover to local street address, docketed
"Valentine Feb. 14/48", other Jul. 13, 1849 folded letter with red
"Kidder's City Express Post 2 Cts." oval handstamp (part strike), Fine and

Brooklyn N.Y., 2c Black on Pale Blue Glazed (93L1). Initialled "IS"
(Isaac Snedeker), full margins except just touched at bottom, uncancelled,
used on Jun. 20, 1848 folded letter from Manhasset, Long Island, to
Brooklyn street address, hand-carried and given to Kidder, "Kidder's
Brooklyn City Express Post Jun. -- 2 Cts" large oval datestamp, some
toning, otherwise Very Fine, a very early example of Snedecker's initials
on the Kidder's stamp -- he is believed to have joined Kidder in late 1847
or 1848 -- ex Caspary (Image) |
