Bangor Express. Black on blue label used on Aug. 17, 1848 folded letter
to New York City street address, red "Return Answer To/Express Office,/11
State St., Boston." three-line handstamp with ms. "11" street address, red
oval "Gay & Co.'s Express from 7 Wall Street, New-York", file fold barely
creases bottom right corner of label, Very Fine, accompanied by two 1844
folded letters with Jerome & Co.'s Express Boston office rectangular
handstamps (one in black, other with two strikes in black and red), also
Very Fine -- a scarce group, illustrating how express companies continued
to carry letters after July 1, 1845, as long as they were connected to
freight (bills of lading, orders etc.)
