to ample at right, creasing and small tears not readily apparent, tied by
red "Free" in frame, second strike and matching "City Despatch P.O."
circular datestamp faintly struck on Mar. 20, 1847 folded printed notice to
local street address, Fine appearance

margins, few tiny rubbed spots in surface color, blue ms. cancel, tied by
red "New-York 10 cts. 15 Sep" (1847) integral-rate circular datestamp on
folded letter to Farmington Me., Extremely Fine, this falls into the period
when the City Despatch Post Office was owned by Cummings and Wright (see
lots 999 and 1000) (Image) |

corner creases at top and two small tears at bottom, cancelled by black
"Free" in frame, affixed to a cover with Greig's Type I circular datestamp,
does not belong, still an Extremely Fine appearing example of this rare
stamp, only eleven recorded in our census, some believe that this stamp was
issued not by Mead but by his successors, Cummings and Wright (Image) |
