Jun. 2" double-line circular datestamp and ms. "X" cancel, to local San Francisco firm, couple filing pinholes, Extremely Fine and very rare, ex Crocker, with 1976 P.F. certificate (Image) E. 1,500-2,000
A 883 imageCalifornia Penny Post Co., San Francisco, 7c Black on Buff Entire (34LU14). Spelling error "Daguerreotpyes" in text, 3c Dull Red (11), ample to large margins, bright shade, tied by greenish-blue rectangular grid (designed to cancel pairs of stamps), matching "Marysville Cal. May 6" circular datestamp, long sealed opening tear across upper left, not immediately apparent and otherwise Very Fine, extremely rare with the 3c 1851 stamp, ex "Edwards" (Image) E. 3,000-4,000

A 885 imageCalifornia Penny Post Co., San Francisco, 7c Black on 3c Red Entire (34LU15). Red "San Jose Cal. Sep. 13" circular datestamp, ms. "Due 6 cts." and pen lines thru 3c embossed stamp, to San Francisco street address, slight wear around edges, Very Fine, the due marking appears to be another example of the conflict between the Penny Post and San Francisco Post Office, with 1978 P.F. certificate (Image) E. 2,000-3,000

"Collect Penny Postage, 10" framed Penny Post Co. due imprint with instructions for delivery at left, "Penny Post Co. San Francisco" double-line circular handstamp, addressed to Sacramento, creased along top and right side, otherwise Fine -- this is the only recorded example of the 10c "Collect" entire, most other Penny Post franks are prepaid (one "Collect Penny-Postage" entire without value stated was in the Caspary sale) -- ex "Edwards" (Image) E. 2,000-3,000

Double-line circular handstamp clearly struck on blue folded cover to San Francisco with sender's directive "pr Northern Light", oval "Nicaragua Line/In Advance/of the Mail" handstamp also at lower left, 1c Blue, Ty. IV (9) and three 3c Dull Red (11), irregular margins cutting in, uncancelled but prepaying 10c transcontinental rate, file fold thru 1c, docketed Aug. 20, 1855 on back (origin date), Fine -- a remarkable usage, carried by the Vanderbilt Line's Northern Light from New York to San Juan del Sud, then carried across Nicaragua to meet with a connecting vessel for passage to San Francisco, upon arrival the letter was picked up by the Penny Post Co. and delivered locally -- ex Kramer (Image) E. 2,000-3,000
