Boyd's Brooklyn City Express Post (Brooklyn NY):
  Lot Lot Description
A 726 imageBoyd's Brooklyn City Express Post, Apr. 22 -- O'C. Red oval datestamp clearly struck on 1845 folded notice of legal judgment to the Clerk of Kings County, Brooklyn, 2c Black on Bluish Green (20L3), large even margins, uncancelled, used in correct time period and appears to have originated, file fold, Very Fine, extremely rare -- Boyd's operated in Brooklyn from September 1844 through June 1845, but the July 1st postal reforms that closed post roads to private carriers ended Boyd's open involvement in servicing Brooklyn -- ex Abt (Image) E. 1,000-1,500
727 imageBoyd's Brooklyn City Express Post, Sep. 12 9 O'C. Red oval datestamp on Sep. 9, 1844 folded letter from Freehold to New York City street address, file folds, earliest use of Boyd's Brooklyn City Express Post recorded by Abt, accompanied by a second folded letter, docketed Sep. 12, 1844, with a weak strike of red oval, Fine and extremely rare (Image) E. 500-750
728 imageBoyd's Brooklyn City Express Post, Sep. 24 9 O'C. Light but readable strike of red oval datestamp on folded letter datelined Philadelphia, Sep. 23, 1844, to Brooklyn and delivered by Boyd's, red sans-serif "PAID" straightline handstamp unlike any marking used by Boyd's but identical to the American Letter Mail Co. "Paid" used by their Philadelphia office in this period -- therefore, this is a conjunctive usage carried by American Letter Mail in Philadelphia to Boyd's in Brooklyn, at a very early stage of the latter's service in Brooklyn -- Very Fine, possibly unique (Image) E. 750-1,000
729 imageBoyd's Brooklyn City Express Post, May 15 -- O'C. Red oval datestamp on folded letter with dateline "United States Ship Ohio, Boston" crossed out and revised "New York, May 14, 1845, Atlantic Hotel", to surgeon at U.S. Naval Hospital, fresh and Fine, extremely rare, ex Abt (Image) E. 500-750
