4c Columbian, Error of Color
(233a). Original gum, lightly hinged, the more intense of the two error
shades, fresh and bright paper, well-centered with wide marginsVERY FINE AND CHOICE. AN OUTSTANDING EXAMPLE OF THE RARE 4-CENT COLUMBIAN ERROR OF COLOR. The 4c Columbian color error was caused by the use of a wrong batch of ink. It has been noted in the past that the color matches that of the 1c, but in fact the true color error is an even darker shade. With 1961 and 1980 P.F. certificates (Image) |
