Sep. 24 19" credit cds, Glasgow transit backstamp, most of backflap missing, slight soiling and edge nicks and tears, appearance has been improved with skillful and discreet cleaning and restoration along edges, Fine appearance, the Violet stamp, though faulty, is extremely rare on patriotic cover and is unpriced as such in Scott (the more common Red Lilac priced at $3,000)

Paid May 16" backstamp and crayon "12" credit on front, red London Paid cds, red Melbourne and Heathcote receiving backstamps (both Aug. 13), with two original letter enclosures to a mining prospector from his brother and sister, written during the early part of the Civil War with news of the capture of Norfolk Va., mention of opportunistic sutlers and comments typical of anti-slavery pro-Union New Englanders - the cover was marked "Unclaimed" in ms. on back, Heathcote Mar. 2, 1863 backstamp and "Advertised and Unclaimed" oval hs on front with ms. "2" rate, accompanied by brown "Post Office Department,/Returned Letter Office/Due 3 Cents" printed envelope, red D.L.O. Sept. 11 cds and red "Charlestown Mass." straightline, used to return the unclaimed cover to its sender - sadly, an earlier letter from the miner is marked "Edward's last letter" and was placed with this correspondence, creating a complete documentation of a gold miner's demise, Very Fine and unique group, ex Paliafito
